Ralph Bakshi

I just got back from Ralph Bakshi's opening at Animazing Gallery in Soho. The name of the show was Unfiltered and it consisted of his recent paintings. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Mr. Bakshi. He was exactly the way I had imagined him to be, laid back, funny and basically a regular old fox. It was a wonderful experience for me to say the least. Hopefully I'll have other opportunities to hang with him in the future. It was great to see such a large turn out for his opening. There was literally a line of folks down the block waiting to get in. Hopefully God will bless him with many more healthy years so that he can in turn bless us with much more of his creative genius.

His paintings will be on display at Animazing Gallery until May 25th, which is located at 461 Broome St. (between Green and Mercer) in Manhattan. NYARTMAN would recommend that you make it your business and go pay your respects to the Godfather of American Underground Animation. The bad thing about the show was that they didn't let him paint the entire walls of the gallery. It would have been nice to have seen one of his twisted cityscapes bombed all over the walls of Animazing Gallery.

Congrats on meeting Mr.Bakshi , I introduced many of my friends to some of his films like wizard, fire + ice , heavy traffic & fritz the cat . To my suprise they immediatly converted from the popular japanese anime to old school hand drawn retro 70's animation.

My thesis is that the old stuff has a more soul embracement to new york city culture than japans animated culture.

I still remeber the first time you exposed me to american pop & ever since then my collection has grown .
